1 9 5 9 - January to June

4 January 1959 - At Teatro Dulcina in Rio, 'Compadecida' with Agildo Ribeiro & Nancy Wanderley.
3rd January 1959 - 'O Estado de S.Paulo' night-life columnist Mary Wynne gives an account of  what New Year's Eve was like at '707' where Uccio Gaeta & his combo played 'Auld Lang Syne'.
17 January 1959 - At Teatro Carlos Gomes, Ankito in 'Tem mulher tô lá...' with Lilian Fernandes, Grande Otelo & Vera Regina.
 4 February 1959 - Mary Wynne drops at Chicote, misses Lupiscinio Rodrigues' performe but is delighted by stand-up comedian Chocolate; after that, Ms Wynne catches up with Caco Velho at his bar and is touched by his thanking her on the microphone for the Sacicinho he was awarded for 'the best night-life sambista'. Caco said he had never received any award in his long career and it took an American journalist who loves Brazilian music to make his due.

15 February 1959 - Morales J. Morales' gorgeous art depicting great Cacilda Becker & august Walmor Chagas in Machado de Assis' 'O protocolo' at Teatro Leopoldo Froes. Jules Renard's 'Pega-fogo' (Poil de Carotte) written in 1900 completes the programme.

1st March 1959 - the 2nd edition of Sacizinho Award for best performers of Sao Paulo night-life during 1958Maysa (best attraction), Katyna Ranieri (best foreign attraction), Robledo (best instrumental combo), Fred Feld (pianist), Uccio Gaeta (musician), Mary Gonçalves (female singer), Caco Velho (male singer) etc.
7 March 1959 - Michel's owner Jimmy Christie celebrates the visit of Lonnie Sattin (born in Florida, went to school in Philadelphia & lives in New York). From left to right: pianist Fred Feld, Lonnie himself, Sylvinha Telles & Jimmy Christie whose parents were Texan who moved to Nova Friburgo; he went to Baylor University in Texas & served in the US Navy; during WWII Christie worked for NBC in New York. 
8 March 1959 - The best of Sao Paulo's 1958 night-life got their Sacizinhos: Mary Gonçalves & Fred Feld amongst them. 
10 March 1959 - Read all about Roy Hamilton's visit to Fasano and other stuff... 
11 March 1959 - Queen Mary as Ms Wynne dubs Mary Gonçalves - 'best female singer' for 1957 & 1958 - says goodbye to her fans at A Baiuca. Ms Gonçalves would board a ship to Buenos Aires from where she would go to Santiago de Chile for a stint at Hotel Carrera. Actually, Mary Gonçalves would return to Sao Paulo only in 1960 for a few weeks, then take another plane to Colombia where she would marry an American citizen and go to live in the USA never to be seen again. 
15 March 1959 - Life goes on! Vadeco & Odilon take over at A Baiúca where Mary Gonçalves had left off. Ms Wynne was an enthusiast of Ms Gonçalves could not but appreciate Vadeco & Odilon's antics plus Vadeco's romantic vein when he crooned 'All the things you are'!
15 March 1959 - APCT - Paulista Associaction of Theatre Reviewers give their Award for the best in Sao Paulo theatre for 1958: best director: Antunes Filho; best actress: Fernanda Montenegro; best actor: Leonardo Vilar; best costume designer: Darcy Penteado. Best new talent for 1958: new author: Gianfrancesco Guarnieri for 'They don't wear black-tie'; best new director: Flavio Rangel; best new actress: Miriam Mehler.
15 March 1959 - US attraction Roy Hamilton signed by TV Record sang nightly at Teatro Record and later at Jardim de Inverno Fasano on Avendia Paulista. 

3rd April 1959 - Great voice Leny Eversong sings a few songs accompanied by Pedrinho Mattar her pianist & by her own son Alvaro at the drums during the cocktail given by Michel to introduce her before she starts her stint there. Leny & Lonnie Sattin gave the audience an unexpected treat when they improvised a great duet of 'Summertime' with Mattar on piano and Fred Feld on the organ.
5 April 1959 - Mary Wynne notices that comics are having their field day at Sao Paulo's nigh-life: Alvarenga & Ranchinho at African Boite and Chocolate plus Ronald Golias at Chicote

5 April 1959 - great American singer Nat King Cole is announced as the new attraction at Teatro Paramount.
3rd May 1959 - Only in Rio de Janeiro one could have a show with such a line up as that: at Teatro da República more than 23 top acts will perform fot the benefit of actor Jesus Raus. Ivon Cury heads the cast. 
7 June 1959 - RGE singer Roberto Luna returns to Chicote where he has sung before. Mary Wynne says 'Castigo' written by Dolores Duran is his most admired musical number. Ms Wynne also says Miss Duran would start a stint at Michel's in July, which she really did. And that was Dolores' last time in São Paulo for she would suddenly die on 24 October 1959. 
15 December 1959 - American vocal quartet The Four Aces open at Boite Oasis where they sing their greatest hits for 5 days; see show-girl Carmen Veronica at Cave...
