Morales J. Morales nee Diego Chiappero was born in Turin, Italy on 24 November 1924. His father was a quantity surveyor and his mother was born in Argentina.
Diego was an anti-fascist partisan during WWII. After the fall of Mussolini, he worked in advertising, helped form a humoristic magazine and finally migrated to South America in 1954.
In 1956, daily 'O Estado de S. Paulo' set up a competition to find a political cartoonist. Diego got second place and was hired as a theatre cartoonist and stayed with the newspaper for many years.

Diego Chiappero is Morales J. Morales' real name. Diego moved to South America in the mid-1950s and won 2nd place at a competition set up by daily "O Estado de Sao Paulo" to find a political cartoonist for the paper.
